Caroline

Caroline has been living, practicing, and studying
yoga for nearly a decade. Her background includes
a wide variety of styles including Ashtanga, Jivamukti,
and Anusara yoga practiced both in the United States and abroad. She began her studies in Connecticut with Lauren Lanham, who remains one of her greatest teachers and inspirations to this day. She continued to study and train with many master teachers including Dharma Mittra, Sharon Gannon and David Life, Bryan Kest, Siva Rea, and Mitchel Bleier.
In the fall of 2008 Caroline moved to Paris, France, where she studied at Rasa Yoga Rive Gauche with Charles Bensusen and Mika de Brito. Bensusen’s Ashtanga apprenticeship program and de Brito’s unique approach to vinyasa flow, incorporating sound and music into practice, greatly influenced her practice. After participating in various intensive workshops (including a master class with the great French Ashtangi, Baptiste Marceau), she returned to the United States to complete her 200-hour teacher training at the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, California, with founders Ganga White and Tracey Rich.
Caroline’s classes and workshops highlight both her eclectic background and playful personality, incorporating both unique sequencing and uplifting music. Her greatest wish is to inspire others to find the same joy and light that she has discovered along the path of yoga. Caroline loves sharing her experiences on the mat with others, and knows that asana, pranayama, and meditation are the keys to happy and healthy life.
In addition to yoga, music plays an equally large role in Caroline’s life. Currently pursuing a masters degree in Vocal Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music, she resides in Rochester, New York. Her love of singing, and of opera specifically, is enhanced by her yoga practice. Knowing that musicians are people who are already deeply tuned in to a higher connection, both within their bodies, and with sound, Caroline believes yoga is the perfect compliment to this already profound awareness. During her time here at Eastman she hopes to develop a yoga program specifically designed for classical singers, pairing traditional pranayama techniques with vocal exercises, in addition to incorporating meditation as a tool to use in role preparation and to quell performance anxiety.
Dedicated wholeheartedly to the power of karma yoga, Caroline also served for two years as the director of Northeast Operations for the non-profit yoga charity, Karmapalooza, which helped to raise over $50,000 for organizations such as Trees for the Future. She believes that by practicing on the mat, one cultivates a knowledge that can be applied to every aspect of life.

Stephanie

I discovered yoga in Boston when, on a whim, I took a class at the Baptiste
Power Vinyasa Institute. I was hooked from the first class. There was something intrinsically spiritual about the experience—the heat of the room, the energy from the other students, and the connection to my own body that I had been seeking all this time.

Yoga has taught me how take a step back and stay in the present moment. Instead of always looking ahead, I have learned to open myself to the beauty of the right here, right now. Not only has yoga empowered me to manage the stress of everyday life, it has allowed me to achieve a combination of personal wellness—physically, emotionally and spiritually. I practice and teach Power Vinyasa. My classes are fun, challenging, and accessible to all levels of students: from beginner yogi to seasoned practitioner. I break down poses so students can fully understand its benefits. In addition, I offer modifications and variations to poses so that students can find a level of practice that is most suitable for them.

In August 2009, I attended the Baron Baptiste Training Level 1 in the Catskills to receive my teaching certification. I have taken various Anusara workshops that have enhanced my knowledge of form and alignment. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science from the University at Buffalo and a Professional Photography Certificate from the New England School of Photography.

Teresa

Teresa first began practicing yoga in 2003 while stumbling upon a class after working out in the gym. Although growing up in a spiritually based home; her spiritual path had begun much earlier than that. It was soon after that experience in the gym that she continued on the yogic path after realizing its benefits mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally. “Yoga has changed my life on so many levels …I am surprised and reminded daily what getting on the mat and regularly practicing can do for me and how it influences my relationships towards others and life”. It was then that Teresa decided to become a teacher to support others on their journey and share her experience with others. Teresa continued to evolve her yoga practice through a diverse range of yogic and other healing influences from the roots of Hatha lineage, to Iyengar, Kundalini, Ashtanga, Kriya, Baptiste (power), Anusara, Prana Flow Vinyasa, and a number of other diverse styles and teachings of Yoga, Ayurveda and Energy Healing with color and sound resonance.

After a month long intensive in Venice Beach, CA, Teresa successfully completed her 300hr teacher training intensive program in 2007 with world renowned teacher Shiva Rea and continues to work towards her 500hr certification with Shiva. Teresa finds peace in her practice by applying the teaching and principals influenced by Shiva Rea; who is grounded in the great tree of yoga and tantric roots of Hatha Yoga, Krishnamacharya’s Vinyasa Krama and Ayurveda.  Prana Flow Yoga is the emerging name that speaks to the integration of Shiva’s studies in Tantra and Ayurveda to offer an energetic approach to the evolution of flow. Every aspect of yoga is explored as the underlying movement of conscious life-force or prana-shakti. Teresa’s classes are based on many aspects including the “bhavana” or “feeling state” of the class with the basic understanding of the eight limbs of yoga, the yoga sutra, chanting, pranayama, meditation and asana (practice). Expect a challenging, yet gracefully mindful flow.

Tisah
Tisah is so excited to join the family here at TRU Yoga!  An Anusara-Inspired™ yoga instructor, Tisah completed her first 200 hour Anusara™ Teacher Training in 2005, with Senior Certified Anusara™ Teachers, Sianna Sherman, Mitchel Bleier, Naime Jezzeny and Sue Elkind.

Through her teaching experience, Tisah has found that the process of learning is never-ending.  Each class there is something new to learn by observing her students; each class attended, an opportunity to learn and grow.

For Tisah, being on the mat is the best place to be.  On the mat you move, flow, float, breathe, engage, expand and fly.  On the mat you learn things about your body and yourself that help you navigate through life with a bit more fluidity.  On the mat you can learn life’s greatest lessons.  What a gift!

Tisah is everyday grateful to her incredible teachers, Mitchel Bleier, Vishali Varga, Aimee Bohn and Douglas Brooks.  And of course, she will not forget her amazing students; who continue to inspire her with their dedication, their bravery, their hearts, their smiles, and their grace.

Amanda

What brought me to my mat is what keeps me coming back time after time-indescribable emotion that leaves me feeling stronger, happier and yet quiet within my soul.  I came to yoga over 10 years ago and began to learn what it truly means to let my heart shine. Having studied various forms of yoga and trained with teachers including Baron Baptiste and Seane Corn, I feel my flow practice incorporates all my knowledge along with the gifts I feel I have to share.  Having a background in Special Education (undergrad) and Mental Health Counseling (masters) I am continually amazed by the perseverance of the human spirit.  Who we are on our mats is not remarkable different than who we are off of them.  Our mat provides a safe place for us to lighten our load and be able to release some of the ghosts we carry with us.  I love to tell students I have 2 rules for yoga- 1.) Show up and 2.) be brave.  Move past just being physically present on your mat, allow your heart and soul to really be present.  Be brave, let your body have the practice it needs not the one your head tells you stories about.  will you allow yourself to modify when you need to?  will you soar when its time to fly?  The joy I find in teaching is the ability to lead a group of students through a journey knowing they will find the path they are supposed to follow and I will be humbled every time I witness it.

Besides working in counseling I am also a personal trainer and fitness instructor (pilates cycling).  I live with my husband Costa and rescue kitty Isabelle.
